The End of Business Cards? Poken

Streamlined Mind brings news of a new social networking gadget: Poken.

You meet someone at a party, or at a business event. Rather than exchanging business cards you can hold your Pokens together and they will exchange your social network pages and photograph.

Targetted initially at students, who presumably won’t remember who they met on a night out, the Pokens are characters which can be attached to your keyring and are inserted into a USB slot on your computer to change your information or download contacts made. They can store information on around 100 contacts before needing to be connected to a PC – ideal for most networking events.

The electronic collection of information about a number of contacts made at an event, and the automated ability to connect with them via social media immediately afterwards is powerful – real, lasting relationships could be more readily built.

Of course, it does mean that we all have to have one… the suggsted retail price is intended to be around that of “a cocktail in a bar”. We look forward to seeing them on sale everywhere.
