Threat to UK Broadband Investment?

Video – both recorded and live – has become an important part of our broadband consumption, alongside broadband intensive applications like virtual environments and gaming. Given the earlier news on Google Friend Connect, we may expect to be able to video conference with other website visitors using Google Talk before too long.

So it’s worrying news that BT is now (apparently) reconsidering its £1.5bn future investment in broadband infrastructure in the UK as a result of the regulator, OFCOM, restricting the price at which it can sell network capacity.

This may be a big game of bluff, as BT’s future relies on its landlines remaining an attractive option compared to cable and emerging wireless technologies.
