Google’s Web Browser Even Faster

Twitter is buzzing with news of a new web browser from Google, with a new “tweet” on the topic every 10 seconds.

Google envisages a day when all our day to day applications are on the Internet, and the only thing we have on our desktop is a browser to access them.

Many sites, like Facebook and GMail, use significant amounts of Javascript -  a programming language which runs in your web browser. In doing so they are able to offer functionality like chat and quick updating of information which gives them the feel of an interactive application rather than a web page.

So Google is investing significant development time ensuring that these applications run quickly. Its latest release of Google Chrome, a free alternative to Internet Explorer, is a third faster than the previous release.

Google is making a marketing push, including TV ads, to secure adoption of Chrome, released last year and therefore much younger than its major competitors. It’s likely that much of the adoption, or lack of it, will be through word of mouth on social media, meaning that the actual experience will be more important than the advertising.
