Nice description of English system for those of us north of the border. I think most unis up here are looking for 4 highers, not 3.Unlike A2s there is no chance to resit any of a higher in the same year. Students are usually offered a non-cond. place on their highers (Scottish degree is 4 years rather than English 3 year, though A level and AH candidates can start in the 2nd year). Some unis will allow an advanced higher in the same subject to bump up the higher grade by one. Although English and Maths were both strongly advised, now it doesn't seem so important (though students are advised to check uni they're applying for), and students who may be weak in one may leave that till S6 so that they don't get a bad grade in their one sitting, or even leave it out all together.

S6 students are usually restricted to 3 AH or 4 subjects if no more than 2 are AH, so e.g. 2 AH plus 2 H. The AH has a project component (apart from maths) so time for self study is left in the timetable.

I've just finished my standard grades, and waiting for my results, but i've moved down to london, so i was wondering, if I get 1s or 2s for my results will it be equal to GCSE A or B?
