Germany’s Ph.D. Scandal: Were Degrees Bought?

germany_phd_0828When completing my 24 hour TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course I met a very odd Irishman who had bought a degree on eBay. He said that even purely because he had a “degree” he was earning nearly double than his collegues who had TEFL certificates but no degree. So, after completing the TEFL course and having a “degree” he would earn well over double what the other teachers at his language school were earning.

I could not believe someone could do this and not feel guilty. He had just bought a generic degree/diploma. However, “…getting a Ph.D. is the pinnacle of academic achievement, but appears that some aspiring students in Germany may have bribed their way to the top.” More…
