Creative Industries – Digital or Traditional
After a visit to the British library in London I was forced to ponder the digital creative industries. It appears to me that there is a key area missing in the headlong drive to grow digital Britain / Scotland / whatever.
The missing thing is the underlying cultural strength in depth and width in the rest of society is not engaged to make use of the amazing digital platforms being built. Web pages, social media and mobile devices are certainly fulfilling a human need but they are not necessarily enhancing society’s creativity in a cultural sense as much as traditional means.
Sometimes when we look around we see media, parliaments, judicial systems and health services as standalone blocks of our world. When you read some of the amazing original writings from the worlds greatest thinkers you realise that those words were the glue and the bolts that allowed everything else to be built.
No more preaching but it is worth seeing.
