Creative Industries Importance
Although the general direction of this blog is the economic impact of film and television on areas away from production centres I am always keen to discover the community impact. A great example is Mark Kermode attending the UK’s smallest and most northerly cinema in Shetand. Mark has been an active supporter of the Screenplay Shetland Screen Festival.
Elsewhere, Pixar are developing an animated production in the Scottish Highlands. This opens up other issues. It is likely to have little impact on the production community but needs to be part of a planned approach to film tourism in the Scottish Highlands. So far the linkage of film to tourism has been piecemeal on a picture by picture basis by various national agencies such as Visit Britain and Visit Scotland. We are now seeing a lot of work being done by local areas but there is no strategy to pull things together nationally or to help spread best practice,

Shetlands. What a beautiful peaceful place. I cannot imagine a more tranquil place for a film festival. Need to go there some day.
